Summer Cruising - 10 Tips - Part 2

Tip 6: Arrive early. This cannot be emphasized enough, whether it is to the port, or to the airport you want to arrive at least 2hrs before departure. With all the extra checks you have to go through nowadays you don't want to arrive on your cruise frustrated and annoyed. Give yourself lots of time to get through the lines of people, checks and so forth and be patient, it will be worthwhile once your through all the red tape and on board.

Tip 7: Keep important items, and documents close until you are on board. You really don't want important documents like your passport or tickets in one of the many luggage bags your taking as this causes delays searching, then panic and frustration. A good place to keep such things is a laptop case, or something similar, which you can carry over the shoulder and has lots of pockets. This is especially useful for other important items such as medications or travel sickness tablets.

Tip 8: Relax and be patient. Your going on a wonderful relaxing cruise, so the last thing you want is to get stressed out, frustrated, or worse before even getting on board. Expect a lot of hassle getting to the boat via airlines and getting on board, there are thousands of other passengers, all trying to get to the same destination. Just chill out, and relax and look forward to the end result, it's going to take a while to get a few thousand passengers on that boat, so take some snacks and a drink, maybe some music to listen to while your waiting in line.

Tip 9: Safety rules and regulations on board. This is especially important if your traveling with children. Make sure they know the ships safety rules, and regulations and make sure they stick to them. Also make sure you, and your children know the quickest and nearest exit points and where life jackets are in case of emergency.

Tip 10: Take a camera. Your going on the summer cruise of a lifetime so take a camera. If, you have children get them a cheap camera too, so they can record their experiences and show everyone back home the things they saw. It's always great to have wonderful memories, pictures just remind us of them, and are a great talking point with friends once you return home.

When going summer cruising there are a lot of things to think about which can at times get overwhelming. In addition, with all the last minute decisions, and packing this can mean forgetting, sometimes the most important things of all.
